Working in Germany

Working in Germany

  •

If you want to work in Germany, you need an employment contract. You can register for free on our website and you can create an employee profile. With this profile you can be found by German companies.

  •

You can also search for suitable jobs yourself. Here you can find current job offers.

  •

Tipps for the appropriate format for an application in Germany can be found here.

You can also watch the video from our integration assistant. Make sure to turn on the English subtitles.

  •

For some professions you will need recognition of your professional qualifications. These professions are also called regulated professions. You have to prove that you have successfully learned or studied your profession. Examples are e.g. doctors, nurses, teachers, lawyers.

You will have to check if your profession needs recognition. Recognition means that the state accepts your degree or certificate. You can find out more or have your degree certified here: Recognition in Germany as well as here: The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.

However, recognition is not always necessary. For many professions - e.g. computer scientist, journalist, mathematician and artist - you do not to do a recognition procedure. Your employer can decide whether your qualifications are sufficient.

  •

The recognition (including all translations) can cost up to 600€ and might take up to one year. Our tip: talk to your employer. You can ask your employer if they are willing to pay the money for you. You can also find this information in the employer's profile.

  •

The first important step is to have a recognition of your degree and an employment contract. Then you have to apply for a visa if you are not from an EU or EEA country. How to apply for a visa and which documents are required can be found in our digital integration assistant guide.

In many professions and in everyday life in general, you need to know German. We recommend you start learning German while you are still in your home country. You can do this either in a local partner school or with the help of a German online language school. You can find an overview of our partner language schools below.

Please note that the individual language school pages with detailed information are only accessible to registered users. Before clicking on the name of a language school, please log in. If you don't have an account yet, you can register here.
