Study in Germany

Study in Germany

You want to study in Germany? That's a great idea! You don't pay tuition fees at state-owned and church universities. One exception is Baden-Württemberg. In this state, students who are not citizens of the EU pay tuition fees of about 1500€!

There are no tuition fees in Germany but studying isn’t totally free either. You have to pay a semester contribution every semester. The semester contribution varies depending on state and university regulations. Information about tuition fees can be found on this page

You are interested in studying in Germany? Then you need to find out whether you are allowed to study in Germany with your high school diploma. You may have to attend a preparatory college. You can find out more at the Central Office for Foreign Education or the Portal Anabin (German only).

  •

You have done your research and now you know that you are allowed to start a Bachelor's or Master's program. Then search the DAAD portal for a suitable study program for you.

  •

Choose the courses that interest you the most. Which documents are required for the application? Do you want to study for a Master degree? Then you have to make sure that you stay in the same field of study.

  •

Many universities work with Uni-Assist. This organization evaluates foreign high school diplomas and certificates. Uni-Assist then sends the report to the universities. This costs money. You can see how much you have to pay on their website.

  •

You have received an approval? Then you can apply for a visa for study purposes (also for the Studienkolleg). You don't have to do it if you are from an EU or EEA country. The visa has one important requirement. Your livelihood, i.e. your funding must be secure (from 01 January 2021 10.332€) through a blocked account.
